It is important to understand that the healthcare industry has only become digitized in the past 10 to 15 years, therefore most organizations are not prepared and find themselves behind the curve from a cybersecurity readiness perspective. The Healthcare industry is a prime target for adversaries (cyber criminals, hacktivist and nation states) because of the highly sought after data it possesses, robbers rob banks because that is where the money is, to put it in simple terms. My objective is to help ABC Healthcare manage cybersecurity risks they face and ensure that their organization is best prepared for any events that might occur. In order to comply with industry-wide regulatory standards mandated by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), ABC Healthcare put in place policies and procedures that addresses data security, storage security, and payment security requirements to enhance security. Healthcare Sector Trends Based on recent trends with growth in the healthcare industry security systems, I would recommend that ABC Healthcare implement mobile device encryption (smartphones/tablet), mobile devices management system, two-factor authentication and digital signature system in order to enhance security.
